Hyundai Genesis Coupe

hyundai genesis coupe

Really nice site for the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Very slick, simple site that features multi angle videos showing the car being driven at high speed around a race track. You can add and remove cameras to the interface to see the action unfold, even with driver’s commentary, you can also enlarge any view. Really nice sound track of the car’s engine, with some subtle hints of music in other sections. Nice twist on the 360 degree video of the car,  with it doing a donut! The main features highlighted whilst tracking the car, pretty cool. There is also a subsection of the site where you can edit your own video using clips from the shoot, all in a mock Premier Pro interface, very full on, can imagine it took a long time to code! Extremely detailed online editing tool! Lots of polish and attention to detail, from the preloader to the rollovers, very very cool…

jumpman 23 2009

Damn cool website promoting the Nike Air Jordan 2009 shoe. 3D interface showing videos of Nike athletes and the shoe, you click and drag to pan the camera through the 3d scene, with nice lighting and visuals. I like the way by clicking a video moves the camera to the correct position, also love the camera panning on click and drag. Nicely polished, nice icons, VERY clean and simple, love the progression and lack of patronising the audience. So simple and clean, really appreciate the interface, very cool…

SEED – The Universe in 09

seed universe 09

Site promoting SEED magazine and it’s articles. Providing an overview of articles on science, design, politics and so on that the world will face in 2009. Nice way of presenting a lot of data in an interesting way, nice colour based navigation system at the top which highlights the articles that address the topic you have selected. Zooming interface also allows you to isolate an article and read all about it. Quite interesting…

JVST

jvst website

Interesting navigation for the site of JVST an agency based in California. I like the transitions between the sections, lots of floating 3d planes and objects – but it all seems a bit, well unfinished maybe? It was created by one of the old masters, Joshua Davis, who did the groundbreaking Praystation, and makes incredible digital paintings. Was he restricted? Were things changed? How much input did he have? You would think that such a name would bring greatness. It’s a shame as the navigation transitions are nice, but on the whole it doesn’t really work… a lesson to be learned here maybe…

Sims Snowboards

Sims snowboards

Site of Sims snowboards. Pretty interesting navigation and layout for a product website; parallax scrolling and rotation, zooming around items and info. All makes for a nice sense of depth with cool animation and interaction. Quite experimental menus that take a while to get the hang of, it’s always great to see new things and ways of navigation. Love it…

Sport Chalet – The Mountain

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

sportchalet

Site for Sport Chalet, promoting their range of snowboarding/skiing products. You are presented with a 3D mountain, you can rotate your perspective around it with each professional boarder/skiier name floating around it. By clicking on one of the names the mountain falls apart spectacularly to form up a new environment where you can see your selected boarder. In some there are videos, interviews, or multi perspective photos – each highlighting the gear they are wearing, where you can see the price and so on – these cool little rollovers follow the person around… I really like this site, from the way it looks, to the high production values (the keying is great), to the fun and engaging way of viewing products, so much better than the standard thumbails and product info – it’s also got some 3D! Awesome!

Honda FIT

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Fantastic site promoting the Honda FIT. Very cool interface, with a the car centre stage, you click and drag the car around and the thumbnails which float around the car in 3D space move so you can select them. Each section features something different, some with little games or images, each highlighting different features of the car. It’s a really fun colourful site, with a really nice use of 3D – which is followed through to the information sections – which is actually quite good fun. I like that you have to explore to get to the various sections – as they are fun you want to see most of them. Love the floating thumbnails and the great feeling of depth in the site, awesome.

Own Your C 2.0

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Self proclaimed as the ‘first-ever choice-making community’, the site poses questions to you, then displays how others have answered. Run by ‘The Colorado State Tobacco Education & Prevention Partnership’ to help young people form their own opinions and encourage better decisions about tobacco.

Presented in a really nice way, in 3D space! with floating responses waiting to form the results of the posed questions. You can also see how your opinions match with other user’s and see comments about each question. It is also possible to narrow results by country, gender, and age – amongst others. It’s a really nice way of presenting data in a simple, easy to narrow way. I also like the great use of 3D, really helps to add depth to the site and provide interesting transitions.

Speak Visual

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Website promoting nVidia graphics cards & processors. Presented in a 3D interface, you can see nVidia user’s perspectives and thoughts about using their products. (Even Joshua Davies is in there!!) There is also a 3D gallery of images from user’s the world over. I like the way they have used 3D to give a great sense of depth to the site, they often break the frame of the site to give an even more pronounced effect. Throughout is a realistic sense of light and shade with polished animations, layout and typography.

Thoughtpile

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Nice site that presents thought provoking questions and asks the audience to contribute and rate ideas – the best is awarded a Herman Miller chair. Created in a 3d floating interface that allows you to fly through the responses and see how they are rated. A clean crisp interface makes navigation simple and an interesting rotation ‘wheel’ can be dragged around to zoom in/out and rotate the scene. Nicely crafted, simple and effective.

Hotel 626

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Immersive site, open only from 6 PM to 6 AM, set in a haunted hotel and presented in a first person perspective. The story starts as you awaken and try to escape the hotel, you must complete a series of tasks to get out. These tasks range from clicking on doorways whilst navigating the hotel’s hallways to taking pictures of a ‘thing’ to blind it, to trying not to wake the baby from hell. It all has high production value and is very well crafted, from the sound design to the animation to the video. I particularly like the 3d video and the interactivity (although limited) whilst moving through the hotel, the movement it provides feels relatively realistic.

Its quite intriguing as it’s all for Doritos, under the guise of the ‘Snack Strong Productions’, who just make nice sites and games like this one. There is really little branding involved – just the concept that Doritos the brand is providing enjoyable experiences like ‘The Quest’ that was earlier in 2008.

Made by Goodby Silverstein & Partners, the people behind the famous ‘Milkatraz’ game that was so popular last year.

Marc Ecko

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Very slick site of clothing label Ecko. Extensive website with a lot of content, presented in a really nice format, more like a magazine with nice visuals and lots of animation. I like that each section is slightly different to each other, and although it is a flash site, there is deep linking and so on. Very well crafted and thoughtout website of a large brand site.
