Choose Up2U

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Fun site for Up2U chewing gum from the makers of Mentos. Giving you the choice to view a scene between various scenarios such as an astronaut or a hip hop artist, zombies and a game show, where your actions are the same in each – all based around the concept of the gum – 2 flavours – 1 pack. I like the way you swap between the scenes using your mouse to drag between them, with your hands and so on perfectly matched between the scenes. It looks great too, and nicely crafted.

Made by Grave

Stylish portfolio of Keith Driesson. Very nice HTML & jQuery site with incredibly slick transitions and full screen images, very minimal but the animation brings it all to life. It works nicely and he knows how to present his work well, a clean and stylish modern portfolio.

Martha Marcy May Marlene

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

The official site for Fox Searchlight’s new film Martha Marcy May Marlene. Finally a recent film release that has an experiential site – sounds, 3d planes, strange video – all nicely put together to create a fun to explore site. A portrait of the main character is exploded into 3d images which merge together to create words and video clips from the film. Well made and imagined, I really like the way videos are presented and the way the 3d images move around to create words – really nice.

Being Henry

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Great interactive short film promoting the new Range Rover Evoque. You control ‘Henry’ with basic choices – i.e. choosing a cafe for breakfast, picking a girl’s nail polish, deciding to help a girl to her apartment with bags. These decisions mount up and create humourous outcomes, getting kidnapped, dodging grandma’s bullets. Love the simplicity, but instead of simply clicking in a direction you drag Henry to the direction you want – simple but it really works nicely. Each scenario is unexpected and funny – and very engaging – you want to play again and again. The choices you make create a customised version of the Range Rover Evoque, even the way this is presented is funny – taking hints from the path you took – really simple and effective. Really nicely made and realised example of car customiser – using humour, high quality video and interactivity to create an engaging experience.

Levi’s Roadwear

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Really interesting concept for Levi’s using the Google Maps interface to explore a journey made by 3 band members wearing Levi’s. Featuring YouTube videos, photos, and commentary from their trip across the items they are wearing – a nicely abstract idea – with each little stain or nick attributed to a story from the trip. Nice photography and a quite absorbing site, with great illustrations – great fun to explore and use.

Google Plus

Simple site explaining what Google’s new Plus functionality does. Replicating the Google maps interface to explain each feature of Google Plus. Looks good and each section has a fun interactive element to it to explain in a really nice way what that feature does. Pretty cool.

All is Not Lost – Ok Go

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Another interactive HTML5 music video this time from band Ok Go and their song ‘All is not lost’. The music video plays out as people do a dance routine, the windows start multiplying and moving around the screen – the content is almost like a kaleidoscope. You can enter a message and towards the end of the video your message will be spelt out. Fun little music video – need to use Google Chrome though.

ROME – 3 Dreams of Black

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Groundbreaking site promoting Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi’s new album ROME, an interactive 3d music video. This is the future of immersive web technologies, lately several sites have used WebGL to power 3d web based experiences – so far this is the best and most creative use I have seen. Directed by the talented Chris Milk, who previously also worked on the ‘The Wilderness Downtown’ project, amongst others. In joint conjunction with Google to also promote the Chrome browser – it works best in Chrome – sadly not at all in some browsers.

Mixing drawn scenes, video, music and 3d elements – it is one of the most immersive cinematic sites I have ever seen. You control your perspective in each scene, viewing through the eyes of the main character. In several scenes such as driving through the crumbling city, where you point your mouse 3d animated objects come flying out of the walls. It is not just the execution but the entire idea and the scenes, music, everything really – it is quite beautifully realised. There is even a section where you can add your own created objects into one of the scenes, so it is constantly evolving – the detail and thought into this all is truly staggering.

It reminds me of the days of the internet when people were making sites for the sheer interactive experience of it all, to push the boundaries and try new things that have yet to be seen. In some ways it reminds me of the also groundbreaking site of the film, ‘Requiem for a Dream’. This is truly inspiring unforgettable experience, coupled with fast, smooth, ground breaking technology this is a landmark website.

The Wilderness Downtown

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Interactive music video using the latest HTML 5 effects. Another great interactive music video for ‘The Wilderness Downtown’ by Arcade Fire, which also acts as a showcase for Google’s browser Chrome. You enter your home town on the start screen and the music video plays whilst pop-up windows open displaying streetview and google maps follwing the running character in the music video – all as if the character is actually there in the scene. New events happen as the music plays all in time with the music. An interesting way to show a video and involve the audience into the emotional side of the song – all digitally – very creative.
