Red Interactive Agency

By | @REDinteractive, WEBSITES | No Comments

Portfolio site of Red Interactive Agency. Loads of really cool transitions and animations – using a grid based layout to highlight key projects, news, awards etc, clicking one flips it around and makes the whole background fade back and the project come forward. Love the transitions between sections and the attention to detail as different sections of the page animate in. Really modern site, with progressive enhancement – most of the animations work on iPad, mobile and so on, pretty cool…

Site promoting Hennessy VS and their new campaign ‘what’s your white rabbit?’. Plunging you down the ‘rabbit hole’, and taking you to strange interactive 3d scenes, love the exploration feel to it all – moving you mouse around the scene,  clicking on strange objects and so on. Nice to see a site like this again, well crafted, fun to play with and looks great.

TCM Summer Under The Stars

By | @1trickpony, WEBSITES | No Comments

Summer Under the Stars is a campaign site promoting TV movie channel TCM’s summer schedule. You able to choose a wealth of famous movie stars such as John Wayne, Rita Hayworth, Marilyn Monroe etc and explore their film history, bio, and so on. Setup as one long page with photos masked off revealing quotes, to a stand out quote treated typographically, content reveals and so on. Load and loads of really nice interactions, animations, and attention to detail – even the pre-loader is really cool.  It all feels like really rich and alive and fun to explore.

Type / Code

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Portfolio site of Type / Code, NY based digital agency. Nice splash screen, 3d reactive particles! Projects displayed as one long list of accordions, revealing the contents on page, with the section splitting and moving down. Like the transitions between the main sections, very simple layout – nice example of a clear, clean well crafted site.

DuJour

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Brilliant site for DuJour magazine, a minimal fashion spread. Great use of typography and photography – a real attempt to get that magazine feel on a site – each article has an overview as you scroll down, allowing you to quickly see the photos and read a snippet – when you explore an article the item spreads out to reveal more content. Love the sticky side navigation so it is always accessible – contents and main nav, contents is really useful for such a long site. Works well on tablet too, really modern fresh site which looks and acts great.

Milwaukee Police

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

No it’s not a film site or a teaser for a new video game – this is the site of Milwaukee Police News. Another vertical parallax scroller but again a really nice one – incredible to think that this is a site for a government agency – how did they achieve something that is not another bureaucratic legacy design. Love the different layers of depth when you scroll to another section and then the side swiping to reveal more content at that level. It’s the kind of content that people can relate to – statistics about what their local police force is achieving to the most wanted criminals, to basic FAQs such as ‘how do I pay my parking ticket’? Really modern take on a Police website.

Cadillac ATS vs The World

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Setting Cadillac’s ATS car in different locations all of the world showing the car tackle things such as hand carved tunnels in China or the rough landscapes of Chile. The interface is lovely, really slick with clear distinctions between content and nice transitions. Another vertical parallax scrolling site – but a really good one – full of intelligent scrolling and carousels. What I like is the animation and transitions particularly, all coupled with large full screen images and great assets.

Track ‘Em, Find ‘Em, Kill ‘Em

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Fun site promoting the movie ‘Expendables 2’. A tongue in cheek guide to the characters, techniques, and weapons seen in the film alongside survival tips, quotes and so on. Love the animated gifs and the descriptions – it’s all essentially a branded Tumblr feed. The art directions is cool, and love the simplicity and the humour.

ParaNorman

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Lovely site promoting the new film ‘ParaNorman’. You explore the site through scenes from the movie – through a side scrolling parallax effect – which is really smooth and responsive. There are small little snippets of the film, interactive sections (brushing his teeth, dragging zombies) one of the nicest parts of the site is the responsive nature. On iPad you shake the device to brush the teeth, moving the screen pans the scene, on mobile phones again a different experience. All non-Flash, really smooth, fun, and with incredible attention to detail and accounting for the range of different devices in a really interesting way.

Love the animations and the way the page splits to open up a section you click on. Really smooth rollovers and Flash-esque transitions, nice design all in all great example of what the latest web technologies can do.

Really nice site looks like it was designed for ‘touch first’.

Golden State of Mind

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Fun, bold, and colourful site for Pacific Sunwear of California. Large photography, bold colours, and parallax scrolling (this time vertically), but all combined make a very graphic presence – very simple in it’s execution but works wonderfully. Love the easing on the scroll – which makes such a difference on a site like this – makes for smooth scrolling experience.
