Jacques Tati – Orange Cinema Series

orange cinema series

Cool promotion site for Orange in France and from what I can tell some cinema events. Nice stop motion animation with cardboard objects, really well animated and provides an interesting look and feel for the site. Nice interaction with the little elements and well animated characters – fun to play with and cool to look at.

Windosill

windosill

Incredible game ‘Windosill’. Featuring several puzzle games that involve you getting your ‘character’ through rooms, each with small interactive games. Amazingly detailed and crafted, you are dropped into a world of 3d objects that you can drag around and play with, everything feels very tactile and interactive. For example you can drag the small part of the ‘i’ in windosill and place it into the small hole in the wall to get to the next room. You can play the first half for free online to complete the game you have to play $3. Really cool…

D&G Jewels

d&g jewels

Site promoting D&G’s range of jewellery. Very simple but engaging – the ‘jewels’ float around and interact with each other – when you rollover them they glow and other objects cannot go near them. It’s quite nice just to watch them bouncing around, when you click on one you zoom in and can see the object in more detail. Well designed and fun to use, nice!

alice olivia

Cool playful site of clothing label alice + olivia. Really simple with a touch of surreal, each section of the site has objects which can be thrown around the screen, bouncing off the sides of the screen and each other. Even when viewing the collection you can pick up and throw around the models. Nice and clean and simple, to the point yet fun and playful.

resn

Cool portfolio site of digital agency Resn, from New Zealand. Nicely done, their personality and slick Flash design skills comes through. Like the use of bold typography and nice detailing and animation. Good to see something slightly different and an agency not scared to show their personality…

Noodle on Noodle – Aim for Space!

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

noodle on noodle

Really cool website, promoting Japanese Cup Noodles – in Japan. From a google earth-esque viewpoint users stack up pots of cup noodles with the aim of reaching space. Really simple idea, really nicely executed – you can watch other users stack up pots and see their mouse cursors and watch how they interact with the site. The screen refreshes with each newly stacked noodle pot, you can also drag a slider to the right to zoom right down to the bottom or where the stack is currently. Typically Japanese style minimal interface and clean slick interaction, looks great too – bit of a cultural nod to the google earth interface, nicely angled to bring out the full ‘stack’ of noodle pots. Really awesome…

NAWLZ

nawlz

Really incredible interactive comic book, set in the future world of NAWLZ, described as ‘an experiment in interactive story-telling.’, it really is quite great (to experience it best you really need your speakers / headphones on). Basically an interactive story set alongside animation and sound design, which is all combined to make an immersive experience. The level of detail is amazing, everything has a multitude of layers and really great illustration…

But what really makes it great is the way it works, you choose to progress the story, along with it comes the animation and the great sound design, together with all so much detail. It all really feels very fresh but also a hawk back to ‘good old days’ of experimentation, new design and progression, reminds me a lot of the earlier Hi-Res! days. Totally awesome…

NIKEiD – REALCITY

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

nikeid realcity

Very simple site promoting NIKEiD and it’s ‘blazer’ shoe in Japan. A short manga style film featuring characters who fly around and colour in a blank city – of course wearing the shoe in question – you are then presented with a blank shoe. By clicking on the different sections of the shoe you can create your own version of the shoe which when complete then colours in the city with your selected pallette. You can then click through to NIKEiD website where your creation can then be bought! I really like the simplicity of it all, the cool animation and most of all it’s fun…

Diesel V

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Latest site feature for Diesel – V. A bizarre, surreal suite of videos that show a woman bathing in other people’s hair (you can send some to her also), a puppet made of meat, and strange dance contests, amongst others. No slick designs or interactions, just these videos. Lots more background info from Creativity Online:

“The video content effort is the first from Swedish shop Farfar as Diesel’s AOR, after the much-awarded Heidies “15 MB of Fame” and a nine-shop pitch to win the business earlier this year, and consists of several shows. “Dance Party,” the aforementioned twisted reality show, brought a group of dancers into a basement studio and then forced them to dance, hooded, with a soulless voice directing them. “Corner Time” sees a series of various hucksters dispatch self-improvement methods, “Pete the Meat Puppet” chronicles one carne character’s rise, fall and rise again and “Hair Bath” sees a heavy-lidded hostess implore viewers to send their hair to a P.O. box in Hillsdale, New Jersey so she can lounge in the tub with it.

A team from Farfar joined Legs at Milk HQ as they shot elements of the campaign inside the gallery/fashion/casting/production hub, going for a black and white, vintage feel for the strange tales, which have a feel to them not unlike John Waters meeting Tay Zonday in a Toys-R-Us unisex bathroom. The brief, the collective writes, was “a black and white 30-page PDF with super ambitious ideas for content of all shapes and sizes from short films to propaganda pieces to live interactive shows, all making up this surreal and mysterious internet TV station.”

Nice to see Diesel continuing the trend to push the boundaries of interactive work, and work by FarFar is always good to see.

Bio Bak

I remember seeing the first version of this site a while back and being very impressed, now v2 is out and it is awesome. Essentially it’s Coen Grift’s portfolio – navigating via a drag interface, zoom in and out with the mouse scroller, you can view the basic information such as biography, contact, etc, but the most interesting part of the site is the little games and puzzles you discover in the ‘explore’ mode. It is a huge canvas – 1000 megapixels – full of great illustrations and characters. Really great attention to detail and very stylish, you really feel that he is not restraining himself and it’s so refreshing to see a totally ‘different’ portfolio. Nicely coded and really intuitive, fantastic!

Surreal parallax vertical scrolling experience! Interesting site that you explore by means of the arrow keys to see random facts about our world. Just a nice distraction with good illustrations and interesting messages. I like the scrolling and the look and feel – pretty cool.

Agent Provocateur

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Interactive movie, showing the latest range of lingerie by Agent Provocateur. Very stylised interactive story that plays fullscreen and pauses to get your choice of direction by presenting questions at crossroads in the story. Quite an abstract plot but essentially its just a nice way of showing the lingerie in an intertactive video format that gets the audience’s attention. I really like the visual style and the simplicity of execution.

Ford KA

Ford Ka

Great website for the new Ford Ka in Brazil. Based on the concept that you are tiny – you select an insect character to begin the story – so you can explore the features of a car from a new, small perspective. The site is navigated horizontally scrolling through a tapestry of surreal artwork showing the features of the car. There are lots of little interactive and animated elements encouraging you to explore the various sections and thus discovering the features of the car. I really like the attention to detail but also the style of the artwork, slightly bleached and surreal, it looks fantastic. A really interesting way of providing a unique user experience promoting a car – much more interesting than the usual car sites.

Which Road to Take

Which Road to Take

Viral site for a new NFS game, viewers are driven to the url which is seen at the end of video banners. Greeted by a looping video apparently from a security camera, there are no hints as to what can be done. By clicking on certain areas of the site i.e. the lightswitch, you trigger events and unveil clues. Interesting way of teasing the audience, I first thought it was for a new film release, but after a quick search many forum posts have ‘solved’ the mystery. It always amazes me how often you present a puzzle and how people will spend an amazing amount of time and trouble to find the answer, check out this page. Nice idea and nicely executed.
