Mountain Dew

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Latest site of soft drink Mountain Dew. Really slick animations coupled with full on extreme sports styling is what this site is all about. Love the animations and the way the page splits to open up a section you click on. Really smooth rollovers and Flash-esque transitions, nice design all in all great example of what the latest web technologies can do.

This Exquisite Forest

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Collaboration between Google and Tate Modern. Described as an “online collaborative art project that lets users create short animations that build off one another as they explore a specific theme. The result is a collection of branching narratives resembling trees.” Really nice little project, love the simplicity of it all – and the fact it works really nicely. Nice minimal elegant design and some cool animations already.

Citroen DS3

Brazilian site for the new Citroen DS3. Very slick Flash site full of transitions, effects, and nice animations – also looks amazing – nice to see a really slick looking car site again. You can customise a DS3 – basically colour, graphics and so on – I like the transitions between the sections too. Nice full screen video and so on – pretty cool stuff – love the art direction too…

Chrome Web Lab

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Love this site right now – lots of live streams and interactive experiments to play with
in collaboration with the Science Museum London and Google Chrome. For example live video streams from an aquarium in South Africa, to playing with a live orchestra in London, to having your face drawn in sand by a robot. I love the design and styling, all very slick and detailed – the attention to detail is incredible – when you are watching the live streams they are first represented by a circular shape when clicking on the feed you can pan around your view and take snapshots, when other people take snapshots a tiny counter is updated. The 3d is fast and smooth – the animations and transitions are spot on, the user experience too – from the menu to the buttons it all looks great. It feels like an old school detailed Flash site, but all in latest WebGL and emerging technologies – fantastic.

Chaos to Perfection

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Another ‘Chrome Experiment’ this time in the flavour of a 3d fly through around The Palace of Versailles. Nice art direction, slightly interactive  tour. You can change your viewpoint slightly as you tour the highlights of the Palace, set along with a nice soundtrack it is reminiscent of the ROME site a while ago. Using the latest WebGL effects it is a good experiment to play around with with a cinematic feel.

Really fun game site allowing you to play with a model train set – all recreated in 3d  with Unity3d. Really simple minimal design & interface, with highly detailed 3d sets that you can rotate, zoom and pan around. Love all the various effects on the maps – such as the depth of field, the lens flares, tilt shift and so on.

Nice site of global agency Designktichen. Really simple, essentially a news feed of items (news, twitter, images) and latest projects that when pressed split the layout to reveal the content – in a really nice smooth way. Nicely designed and bold typography – thoroughly modern site.

Build With Chrome

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Nice site promoting Google Chrome – a tie-in with Lego, a large Google map of Australia dotted with grids made up of lego bricks. As you zoom into the map you end up in a 3d view of places where people have created their own blocks and shapes which you can view from various angles. A bit of fun, clean integration and nice 3d effects.

Yasuda Takahiro

Lovely site from Japanese designer Yasuda Takahiro. Very minimal interace nicely spiced up with transitions and smart features. Love it the small details in this site, when you are scrolling down the info panel scrolls with you with the overlay tracking exactly the scroll bar position – it changes colour when you scroll to another section – nice small details. Really nice work too – very cool.

Portfolio of Polish agency K2. Really slick site highlight their best work, with plenty of nice transitions and effects. Like the simplicity of layout and large imagery, the open / close transitions on the work section are great, and it all feels well polished. And all in a non-Flash site…

Healing Histories is an interactive documentary highlighting New Orleans recovery from the hurricane Katrina that destroyed much of the area. Love the simple interace with rich assets and imagery,  the transitions and animations are very much ‘app’ esque with smooth movement and useful metaphors. Really nice site looks like it was designed for ‘touch first’.
