Rollin’

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Japanese site of label Rollin’, described as “Creative director Daisuke Iwashita presents his collection for the label and offers backstage video, accessories gallery, and stockist information”. Not 100% sure about the product but the site is pretty cool. Love the simple, minimal design and the transitions and animation – particularly on the section ‘collection’ – when pressed it scrolls at speed through all of the images. I also like the off-canvas style transition to reveal product info, again all wrapped up in a simple design with cool animation.

Ittetsu Matsuoka

Ittetsu Matsuoka Ittetsu Matsuoka Ittetsu Matsuoka

Portfolio site of Tokyo based photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka. Very minimal interface, essentially explored by scrolling – love the homepage where you scroll and it loads in images from Flickr by the photographer – the interface stays in place. This is a recurring theme – scrolling isn’t what you might traditionally expect – here it explores the images acting as next / back type action. I love the use of white space and the transparency / overlapping – it also uses an interesting vertical dot system for navigating the projects once within ‘project’.

GREY – Interactive Access Map

By | @greygroupapac | No Comments

Grey Mapgrey-map-2grey-map-3

GREY group’s directions to their Japan office. Instead of doing a standard map, they did a fun interactive third person map. Simply using the arrow keys to go forwards / backwards arriving at crossroads, going the wrong way prompts some silly dead end sequence – lots of these to find! Just a really fun, creative way of showing people how to get to the office – full of personality and Japanese style irreverance!

Yasuda Takahiro

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Lovely site from Japanese designer Yasuda Takahiro. Very minimal interace nicely spiced up with transitions and smart features. Love it the small details in this site, when you are scrolling down the info panel scrolls with you with the overlay tracking exactly the scroll bar position – it changes colour when you scroll to another section – nice small details. Really nice work too – very cool.

Site of Japanese designer & developer Yukiya Okuda. Simple exploratory site with lots of Flash & WebGL interactive experiments – very simple and fun to play with.

Trench Trip

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Short movie & site promoting Japanese label United Arrows. I like the site after the film, presented like a credit roll to a film, another scrolling site – but this one is really nicely done, love the little animations for each part as you transition into them. Nice touches of detail such as the motion blur, sounds and so on as you scroll, bucking the current trend to execute this in Javascript this is all Flash based.

Undercover – Uniqlo

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Colloboration between Uniqlo and Japanese fashion brand Undercover. Using the visual navigational metaphor of Google maps to allow you to explore and zoom into the various clothes on show in the quirky paintings / photos. Just a nice way of showing fashion in an interesting way, another typically fun and playful site from Uniqlo.

PARTY

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Best described by their website – ‘PARTY is a “Creative Lab” based in Tokyo and New York, founded by 5 Creative Directors, Naoki Ito, Morihiro Harano, Qanta Shimizu, Hiroki Nakamura, and Masashi Kawamura.’ Essentially 5 really talented creative directors working on some really nice, innovative projects. I like the strips on the homepage representing their projects – stretched over time, nice visually strong idea. For the rest they have some really nice projects and its well worth taking a look, definitely one to watch.

NYC Now – UNIQLO

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Interesting site for Uniqlo – showing what has been happening in NYC to promote Uniqlo’s presence in NYC. Featuring a large scrollable map full of activity with short videos highlighting what has been happening in the city. You can also see videos of each store and explore a grid of all the videos. Really like the map and the activity it shows, all set in time to a drum like beat, again I like the sit back and watch quality of this kind of thing – it is interesting just to watch. Nice transitions and animation – all in all very cool.

Internavi Dots – Honda

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Site for Honda Japan featuring info graphics and data about road journeys in Japan. These are all visualised using coloured dots and smoothly animated and shown like a slideshow. Information such as current traffic and weather conditions is shown all in an informative and interesting way. Love the way the dots all move around to form the visuals. Minimal layout and look and feel but the animations and slideshow are really nice, great way of showing information in an dynamic and visually interesting way.

Check-in Chance – Uniqlo

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Constantly amazed by the quality and innovation of Uniqlo micro sites. This one for Japan involves a cute 3d scene – your mouse controlling the rotation of the scene. Animated to the music and the scene is brought to life, objects fall using parachutes to the ground and a whole pile of things litter the floor. You scroll through the site as you do the angle of the 3d view changes and it highlights the differing depths of the scene. Lovely parallax effect and real feel of depth and cool animation – fantastic, not sure what the site is all about but the execution is amazing.

The Heart Beetle – Volkswagen

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Really nice and fun site for Volkswagen’s beetle in Japan. Simple premise – people customising the colour and pattern of the car – all shown in a dynamic and scrolling slideshow manner. You can create your own of course, this is also nicely done and very simple. Really smooth and fast animations and transitions, nicely made and typically Japanese styling bit of an old school concept though but fun nonetheless.

Uniqlo – Super Cool Biz

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Yet again another fun and fresh site for Uniqlo. The site encourages people to dress ‘cool’ in Japan’s hot summer and to save on electricity by using air con. Featuring office workers switching their suits to cooler lightweight Uniqlo products – all featured with price – smart and relevant to the current power crisis in Japan. Again, I love the scrolling slideshow effect of the people, when you interact with the thumbnails the people even rotate with the position of your mouse. Set in time to the music and really fun to interact with, I love the way the thumbnail moves around with your mouse, the music, the animation and transitions, another great site for Uniqlo.

Sharp Expo

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Website to celebrate Sharp’s centennial anniversary in 2012. Featuring their innovations since their inception in 1912, through a cute animated scrolling scene of their products. Click on an item and a nice slideshow of similar products and a bit of history. Set to a catchy tune and smooth animation, wrapped up in a minimal look and feel it gives the brand quite a bit of character. Simple, fun and looks good – very nice.
