Sims Snowboards

Sims snowboards

Site of Sims snowboards. Pretty interesting navigation and layout for a product website; parallax scrolling and rotation, zooming around items and info. All makes for a nice sense of depth with cool animation and interaction. Quite experimental menus that take a while to get the hang of, it’s always great to see new things and ways of navigation. Love it…

Momoko Golf Lab – Sony Japan

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

momoko golf lab

Momoko Golf Lab, a promotional site for Sony Japan. Providing you with multi angle videos, hi-speed camera footage and so on, all featuring golf. What I like about this site is the interface and the use of 3D for an immersive experience. You rotate around a 3D scene, with videos mapped onto planes and cubes, all a bit surreal and ‘techy’ but it looks pretty cool.

Sport Chalet – The Mountain

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

sportchalet

Site for Sport Chalet, promoting their range of snowboarding/skiing products. You are presented with a 3D mountain, you can rotate your perspective around it with each professional boarder/skiier name floating around it. By clicking on one of the names the mountain falls apart spectacularly to form up a new environment where you can see your selected boarder. In some there are videos, interviews, or multi perspective photos – each highlighting the gear they are wearing, where you can see the price and so on – these cool little rollovers follow the person around… I really like this site, from the way it looks, to the high production values (the keying is great), to the fun and engaging way of viewing products, so much better than the standard thumbails and product info – it’s also got some 3D! Awesome!

NIKEiD – REALCITY

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

nikeid realcity

Very simple site promoting NIKEiD and it’s ‘blazer’ shoe in Japan. A short manga style film featuring characters who fly around and colour in a blank city – of course wearing the shoe in question – you are then presented with a blank shoe. By clicking on the different sections of the shoe you can create your own version of the shoe which when complete then colours in the city with your selected pallette. You can then click through to NIKEiD website where your creation can then be bought! I really like the simplicity of it all, the cool animation and most of all it’s fun…

Vodafone Racing

Site showing the 2008 season of Formula 1 team McLaren Mercedes. Nice clean crisp interface that displays photographs and key moments of the season, navigated via a 3D parallax system. You can jump back and forth between the various circuits from Australia to Brazil, with the camera flying through the scene. A nice way of displaying chronological information in a graphic, well structured way. Like the way the camera flies with great speed to the various circuits.

Stylish site for the Y3 collection of Adidas clothing. Like it’s name sake the items are presented as if on a lightbox, you can zoom in to see the details on the clothes and scroll around to explore the video of the model walking, you can view the items from different angles too. Nice design, effects and transitions make this a simple and stylish microsite.

Beach Volleyball

Beach Volleyball

Very interesting site for the German beach volleyball team. I’ve selected this because of the mechanism used to explore each section of the site. Each section has its own 3D scene, using your mouse to move left to right the movement causes the camera to move and pan along a path. This all provides a very fluid and intuitive navigation system that looks and feels great – with the camera floating through the scene it gives a really interesting and enjoyable way of exploring the site.

Nike Lab

Nike’s site to promote their products for the olympics. This is a great example of good slick website design, lots of great touches and rollovers/animations. Full Flash site, with many sections, it is functional, easy to use, but with the addition of looking great and providing a good user experience – great attention to detail.

Le Coq Sportif - Media Browser

Nicely conceived site of adverts and so on for sports brand Le Coq Sportif. You can explore the various ads and other videos and media over the years by searching, scrolling around, or setting crieria. Well laid out and structured, its interesting to use and functional. I like the way the grid system works and particularly the vertical scrolling – nice idea.

Red Bull – Flugtag Flight Lab

Redbull - Flugtag Flight Lab

Wow, incredible site for Red Bull promoting the Flugtag – an international event where people create flying contraptions and run off a large ramp into a lake! This is the interactive equivalent. You can design your own plane, edit other peoples, or use templates – you can paint it, choose what material the parts are made of and so on. You then enter the flying arena where you take your design to the skies and perform tricks and try and get a high score.

The attention to detail is incredible, created by Less Rain, as they write in their blog: “Flight Lab gives you the real thing: It’s a 6DOF (degrees of freedom) flight simulator modeled by a physics engine in 3D using rigid body dynamics. Real airplane wings can be described by specific lift and drag coefficients, depending on how quickly and from which angle the air flows over a wing section. That’s what Flight Lab does.” Some great ‘making ofs’ can be found on their blog, part 1, part 2. Just a really amazing, ground breaking site, made in Papervision that really couples great design, usability and latest technology. I love the art direction and the concept has been well thought out and executed, really impressive!

Suite 23 – Nike

Suite 23

Real slick site, promoting the Nike Air Jordan XX3 basketball shoe. Really nice example of first person perspective 3D navigation – as 3D penetrates the latest websites we see it in the style of ‘Doom’! Apart from that its just a good looking, well performing microsite.

Its a just a great experiential site, involving you and encouraging you to explore the website, really slick – I really like the simple & effective navigation, rollovers, it just so easy to use.

Nike ACG Sweetspots

Nike ACG Sweetspots

Another great example of a site integrating Papervision 3D, this is one of the best showcases of it I have seen to date. A globe highlighting ‘sweetspots’, i.e. a cool snowboarding area, is the main navigation – very easy to manipulate & use. The attention to detail and overall design & polish is really spot on, i.e. the motion blur whilst rotating, and lovely transitions.

Created by Duke, it is an inspiring, enjoyable example of a slick, usable, and cutting edge Flash site.

Red Bull Mediamix

Red Bull Mediamix

Innovative Flash site providing video content in an interesting layout, really like the design and fantastic transitions. he way a mass of information is organised and displayed is really nice, with good use of rollovers and fades – its also very easy to use.

Made by Less Rain, they explain it best: “The purpose of the Mediamix is to bring media content – in particular video content – to the foreground and make existing media content more accessible through an innovative channel interface. One of the main goals has been the cross linking of all media with related content. Additionally all media items are downloadable, linkable and can be embedded on 3rd party sites with the branded Red Bull player you can see below.”
