Site promoting Weber BBQs – through showing the world of BBQs and how they are used all over the globe. This is shown through a series of linked videos and locations, from smoking salmon in the woods to a BBQ whilst watch football in Germany. Nice alternating grid layout at each location, allowing you to explore hints and tips on how to make the perfect BBQ, such as how to sharpen your tools properly, how to look for the right kinds of meat and so on. This is all created in an informative way that is actually useful. All in all a nice branding piece lifted by a dynamic interface that lets you explore the world of BBQ cultures.

Prompts to see videos and imagery pop up allowing you to see more when you want to dive into the detail – a sliding panel arrives with photos, film etc. There is a lot of detail, such as ambient sounds, conversations and insights into these people and their world. Lots of nice transitions, animations, icons and so on – it also looks great and provides an immersive experience.

Take an interactive journey through the iconic recording studio Abbey Road. Using a custom photo shoot and Google Streetview technology to show the insides of the famous studio. The amount of detail is incredible, from historic photos mapped to your viewpoint, inline videos of musicians, and even an interactive mixing studio. They used high res cameras to take ultra high detail of each panorama – if you read the about page you will really see the amount of detail and technical craftsmanship that has gone into this project. You can get lost exploring the studios and all the different views and snippets of information – it is a real feat and a real pleasure to explore – great piece of work.

Lovingly crafted site for baseball team The St. Louis Browns, and their history. Feels very much like an app, with rich photos and video, all with nice typography. Loads of detail and interesting nuggets of info, from photos, balls, and history. Look and feel is nicely grained and with hint of nostalgia – it looks great with accented orange colour – all nicely designed and all in all a rich, interactive, encyclopaedic experience.

Lovely bit of work, highlighting the plight of 30 of the world’s most threatened animals. Nice project educating the world about these amazing animals – love the look and feel, the polygonal creatures morphing from one to another. Attention to detail is great, the animals subtly animate, so does the typeface! Pleasure to use and love the way each scene changes to the next – and on top of all of this it also works on mobile/tablet really well. Great to see more of this kind of work out there.

Word Map

word-map-3

Simple site mapping the origins and usage of words across the world. Simple premise enter a word and the site will – using Google Translate – track the use of the word and translate in across the world. I like the way it tracks the words and actually speaks them as your travels all over the world. When it stops lines represent the origin of the word and clicking on them reveal how to speak the word in that country. Nice bit of fun and something a bit different.

Site for Bose the speaker and electronics creators. Focussing on what makes up Bose, from their history through to their innovations. Presented in an interesting almost encyclopaedic way, with individual chapters with an app like appearance. Lots of nice little transitions and animations which lift the content and make it feel so much more dynamic. Love all the diagrams and the short snippets of video that really illustrate the content well. Nice work.

Fascinating interactive documentary about the ISEE-3 satellite that has been in orbit since 1978. Featuring a mixture of 3d elements, film, and photography it’s a really nice approach to show the orbit and history of the satellite. There is also a live view, where you can see estimates of where the satellite is today – all shown in 3d. Love the timeline approach and the fascinating way of representing the orbit of the satellite, where it has been all in a 3d model that you can explore – nice mix of media to explain the satellite and it’s history.

Site for French film ‘Waterloo’, telling the story of the famous battle of Waterloo. Focussing on the two sides pitted against each other, Napoleon and Wellington – and describing through iconography the differences between the English and French forces. Nice experience with sounds, full bleed imagery and video – all in a tight layout, with modern interaction design with sliding panels and menus. It looks great too, with the muted colours and distressed overlay.

Lovely site for Google Street view, best explained on the site: “an immersive journey through lively Cours Julien, a neighbourhood of Marseille famous for its unique atmosphere and street art. Listening to your guides Julie and Christophe, you can wander around the vibrant streets as if you were really there, thanks to 360-degree panoramas that we captured at night.” Really nicely realised and crafted, like the streetview you are used to but with the the additional hotspots and tools to really explore the neighbourhood. Love the sound design too, as you pass bars you hear the business and the autoplay commentary really adds a nice dimension to the experience.

Site for French TV Channel ‘France 2’ – and their programmes about France in WW1. Set like an encyclopedia of important events centred around a map (which like the old school Flash days curls up when you visit events). A very rich interactive site full of videos, images, and transitions – which feels like an old school rich Flash site – when in fact it isn’t – great to see sites like this which aren’t a standard parallax site.

A wealth of well considered content from videos in the lower towns through to sherpas stories in base camp. There is a great interactive 3d map of Everest and a documented trek to Everest base camp.
