Interesting project to 3D print a new Rembrandt painting from special software written to recognize and read a vast library of his paintings. The website itself takes you on a scrolling journey through how they tackled it, with sliding panels bringing in more info. So many nice details, from the animation and transitions to the lovely design. Thoughtful UI and interaction, brought to life with great imagery and short videos.

Beautiful interactive story to promote Austrian newspaper Falter. Featuring a chapter by chapter animated dystopian scenes, beautifully drawn and animated with fantastic sound design that builds as you get further into the vertical story. Love the drag and the threshold that restrains the scrolling – so you get a hint of the 3D scene put not so much to be hard to navigate. Very unique and fascinating way of promoting a liberal newspaper, beautifully executed.

Explore events from the Netherlands in the 60s in this interactive exhibit. Love the collage where you can explore key moments in a Google Maps-esque layout, slick transitions and animation to the detail view. Subtle parallax effect adds a nice element of depth and love the ‘tours’ which offer audio tours through the content.

Lovely long form article on the story behind Johnson & Johnson – from the Huffington Post. Loads of great UI moments and nice approach to dealing with this amount of content and allowing users to navigate it in an interesting and compelling way. From the slide out menu detailing chapters, nice typography, to the sticky timeline along the left side which provides a nice reference marker. I love the use of illustrations to break up the content, some of which are interactive infographics, or nice parallax moments that play with depth. Considering the subject I love the way PDFs documenting evidence and letters etc backup the story. A fantastic take on in-depth interactive storytelling.

See the Greenpeace fleet and how they have tried to raise awareness for the ocean environment and the creatures affected by humans. Rich immersive audio and visual experience highlighting the vessels Greenpeace uses and has used over the past 40 years. Love the look and feel for the site, from the rotating reel acting as the menu to the technique used to show inside the ships – the site is full of delightful details. It works really nicely on mobile too, from the menu to the map view – all works and looks great.

The digital accompaniment of a new book documenting various animals love rituals. Love the minimal pared down approach which highlights various movements and behaviors the animals have – shown simply through moving shapes. Click on the animation and a page split appears and more information is shown. Nice transitions and love the unifying way of displaying the simple animations to highlight the various weird and wonderful ‘acts of love’.

Norwegian Telethon campaign to help save the rainforest and raise money for forests in Peru, Brazil, DR Congo and New Guinea. Lovely 3D execution that maps a forest with areas to explore marked with areas sponsored by donors, highlight animals and stories to explore. Love the panoramas of the locations such as riverbanks, villages, trails and so on. Short videos and imagery can be explored from this view – all explaining the balance between natives, nature, and the impact modern life is having. Lots of nice transitions and animations, nicely designed layout and well integrated 3D complete the site.

Site promoting the US Army and recruitment for STEM capabilities (science, technology, engineering, math). With a futuristic 3D look and feel you can play a series of challenges that map back to STEM such as guiding a drone over a landscape, decrypting codes and so on. Execution is superb, with the whole world rendered in 3D – landscapes, details, and interactions – the ‘path clearing’ is a great example. Love the look and feel of the site – very impressive, and it also works nicely on mobile.

Love the mixture of full bleed video, large imagery, and editorial layout to create an impactful design. Some really nice UI touches such as the menu, the sticky nav on the left, and bookending of articles and pages. Well crafted with insightful content and well designed layout full of thoughtful details.

Interactive documentary that has curated 10,000 video clips, news, tweets, charts, graphs, lists, and millions of individual data points. Fascinating mix of topics and overwhelming amount of data. An interesting aspect of the site is that it limits you to viewing for only a couple of minutes at a time – then blocking you from re-visiting for 24 hours. Love all the infographics, and the interesting navigation at the top – all the topics instantly navigable from the scrolling mechanic. Simple but impactful it offers a glimpse into what people are doing and looking for online.

Fun site that maps attitudes of people across London by area and postcode! Best described by the creators: “The ambition of the project is to playfully showcase and compare London’s current social wellbeing levels by area whilst encouraging us to be more mindful of our everyday social interactions with strangers as we move through the city. If we are all more aware we can work towards shifting the stigma of a grumpy city and make London even more enjoyable to be in.” Love the 3D map they have created and the soft tones and interactivity of the scene. A lot of love has clearly been give to the development through the camera movements and transitions and the sense of personality in the design.
