Lots of nice little transitions and animations which lift the content and make it feel so much more dynamic. Love all the diagrams and the short snippets of video that really illustrate the content well. Nice work.

Interesting approach for Land Rover USA, an interactive story written by author William Boyd. Featuring a montage of audio and visuals, telling the story of a man in his 30s given a mysterious chance job to drive a Land Rover to Scotland. Some nice basic interactivity and nicely put together to provide a compelling story – relying on the audience’s captivation the story is divided into 8 parts. A bold approach to interactive storytelling which works nicely.

Fascinating site for j.views, documenting the creation of the new album. Brilliant insight into how the artist creates new music, from sources of inspiration to soundbites and video clips. Not only a great idea, but executed beautifully – a very exploratory interface with elements animating i.e. waveforms in a hexagonal pattern to represent sound recordings, and a timeline approach. Love the look and feel and all of the small details that breathe in life and dynamism. The DNA view is mental! But harks back to the day of more experimental interfaces and experiences – which ties in hand in hand with the concept.

Site for Rosewater, a film about BBC documentary maker. Nicely designed with full screen video background and typographic overlays – offering insight into the film and the characters. Really nice transitions and text effects that bring a touch of movement and dynamism to the layout. I like the background music and the typographic heavy approach, the short clips and details for each theme works well too. Another lovely site from Watson D/G.

Site promoting ‘Mocking Jay’ the latest film in the Hunger Games film/book saga. Hooking up your phone to the browser you can play some small puzzles on your phone to ‘hack’ content – games that uses your phones tilt and motion sensors – really nicely synchronised. You unlock key sections of content to reveal a larger picture of what the film is all about. Lovely glitch effects and again lovely design by Watson D/G, nice typography and futuristic look and feel. Nice bit of fun…

Site for French digital art director Flavien Guilbaud. Stripped back and with a bold typographic style, very simple but enhanced by slick animation and transitions. Love the full screen numbers in the background – the scrolling mechanism to bring in screengrabs from the right is a nice touch.

Fun site for new video game ‘Destiny’ – game set in the future with a sci-fi interplanetary edge. Starting from a Google Earth view of where you are and zooming out to space – allowing you to choose which planet to explore. Love the streetview-esque spin on the scenes where you explore the kind of people you might find on each planet, all a nice bit of fun. Nice way to bring to life the game a little – and provides way more engagement and excitement than the atypical long scrolling page.

Really really simple and enjoyable execution of a nice idea – for Honda Type R. Hold down the ‘R’ key on your keyboard while watching the film, it will show the same story and scene from the other side. In this case switching between a dad picking his kids up from school vs picking up his partners in crime fleeing a burglary! Very addictive to switch between the scenes – to see ‘the other side’. Had to include it for its simplicity and elegance, can’t help but smile at this one – and it’s just a car ad!

Lovely site for Guillame Bouvet, French industrial designer. Modern and fresh the editorial layout combined with transitions and animations brings out the details in his creations. Love the way you zoom into images – all within the white frame. It looks great and all the small details, rollovers – animations and so on bring it all to life.

Nice refresh of the The Great Discontent website, a magazine about creativity, entrepreneurship, and risk taking. The online version is a beautifully laid out variant of the printed magazine, with lovely typography and nice photography. Nicely considered for the screen, with nice big copy for reading the interviews and the pull out quotes – nicely structured too, easy to find other articles and browse around. And it is responsive too, nicely done…

Site of Tokyo Mild Foundation, Japanese film producers. Minimal layout and dark look and feel shows the projects on offer – stripped back and simple. Some nice transitions and some cute details bring it all to life, I like the slide out menu from the left and the ‘member’ section is nicely done.
Fascinating interactive documentary about the ISEE-3 satellite that has been in orbit since 1978. Featuring a mixture of 3d elements, film, and photography it’s a really nice approach to show the orbit and history of the satellite. There is also a live view, where you can see estimates of where the satellite is today – all shown in 3d. Love the timeline approach and the fascinating way of representing the orbit of the satellite, where it has been all in a 3d model that you can explore – nice mix of media to explain the satellite and it’s history.
