Lovely responsive site for the McColl Center, which is a center “for Art + Innovation empowers artists to advance community through the creative process.” this is their site. Looking more like a design magazine it is beautifully designed – from the typography to the layout and photography, all feeling very fresh. Proof that responsive design does not have to be boring and boxy.

Lovely new site for Jam3, Toronto based digital agency. Fully responsive, but the desktop variant is alive with lots of animations and transitions that bring to life a lot of the work. So much attention to detail and craft has gone into and it shows! The project pages are interesting and well formatted, and the animations bring it life. Lovely, dynamic example of a responsive agency site.

Site from Chris Wang, a designer & art director, created to showcase his photography. Looks great and is full of elegant animations and transitions, love the typographic masking on the homepage. Lot of nice touches that bring to life the photography, love the preloader for each of the sections while the images in the set load, and again the transitions between the photos. Top class stuff…

Site promoting the new film ‘The Quiet Ones’. Essentially an interactive trailer that takes you through the premise of the film, through short interactive scenes – i.e. opening the door, turning on the lights etc. Lots of ambient sound fx, full bleed videos and imagery really provide an immersive experience – much better than a basic site with the cast / stills / trailer and so on.

Site of Active Theory a digital production house in Venice, CA. Their body of work is impressive and is wrapped up in a nicely done, nicely animated site. Love the labs section – where you can see their dabbling in Web GL / Javascript experiments – also nicely shown on the homepage with the undulating interactive circles.

Site of John Iacoviello a software developer based in Canada. Based around a 3d box that represents the different sections of the site when clicked performs the ol’ glitch effect – nice to see it done in Javascript / Canvas. Some nice touches here and there and good to see a portfolio not adhering to the standard template.

Fun site for Bolthouse Farms to promote healthy eating by tracking how little people post socially about fruit & vegetables. Interesting way of showing this by loads of fun experiments such as clouds of grapes, a row of fruit you can squish, a carrot keyboard and so on! Fun way of highlighting the difference in healthy vs unhealthy food in a non educational / boring way.

Micro site to promote the new game ‘Watch Dogs’ through a psuedo real site of the city wide security operating system shown in the game. Brought to life through animated info graphics, animation, and transitions. In a similar vein to the Meet Your MX site where a whole world is created around a product or service. Looks good and is a nice use of animation and an interesting approach to promoting a new computer game.

Site promoting the new Wes Anderson film ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ – through the guise of on an online course ‘Akademie Zubrowka’ to learn about world of the film. All done through the style of a projector – with lens blur and sliding transitions. Loads of lovely details such as looking at the individual items – zooming in on them. It looks great and the overall visual style of site is quite distinct and matches the film and posters well – really nice example of a film promo site.

Site from Kenzo trying to raise awareness about the global decline in ocean life. A tie in with the Blue Marine Foundation Kenzo have also released a line of tee shirt and sweaters too. Interestingly done through a 3d scrolling site, as you scroll your view explores the screen in a uniquely Kenzo way – colourful and bold.

Nice video site promoting the new Gran Turismo 6 game. From the perspective of Mario Andretti famous driver, and his first love for a special car – the Hudson. Nice video story, with a nice full screen experience with sliding panels showing chapters and so on. Like the way the menus appear – smooth transitions to and from the main screen showing the main story.

Micro site promoting ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ a new film released this summer. Some nice touches such as ambient noises and video, to put across a mood – with some cool interactions to explore the two main scenes. It also works responsively – although the desktop experience relies on rollovers – it still works and is nice to see people trying something other than long scrolling parallax pages.

A series of interviews with artists spanning various disciplines. Really interesting layout and interactions used here, love the multi-layered approach, offering a sense of depth. Zooming in/out of the layout gives different layers of information, particularly like the menu – which shows a summary of how long the interview is – also like the way you can select a category of interview i.e. process, chaos etc. Really slick motion and transitions, and it’s great to see a site that isn’t a simple parallax scroller page. Full of rich interactivity and a nice take on a video site.
