minimal

Castor

Fun site for Castor Design a Canadian design firm. Love the high res image of shelf’s that you have to zoom in/out of – akin to Google Maps. Clean crisp design and interactivity – nice little touches and animations bring an element of playfulness to the site, lots of hidden content. Smooth animation and transitions – all good.

blacknegative

Beautifully crafted site for French agency blacknegative. Adopting a style of navigation similar to an iPad app you click and drag between sections to see what blacknegative is all about and see their projects. Full of well considered animations and transitions, and most insterestingly it is all in HTML5/Javascript, the smoothness of the animations and style of transition is incredible. The integration with the minimal design and layout is fantastic – a top notch site.

MoMA – Cindy Sherman

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Nice site promoting Cindy Sherman’s photography at MoMA. Nice simple, well designed, and well crafted photography site. Love all the attention to detail, the sliders, I like the depth of field look on non-selected projects. Many characteristics common with Flash, however it is not – nice transitions and effects too. Really nice site!

Google Cube

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Nice site highlighting Google Maps and its latest abilities. Using a 3d map you move your cursor to change the position to move a rolling ball through cities such as New York, London and Tokyo, each time showing a feature of Google Maps such as tube times and so on. Really nice WebGL 3d, and beautifully done and designed – all fun to use to and very Google.

RDNS Reflections

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Really nice site for the Australian RDNS, which provides nursing and healthcare services for those in need. The site highlights the 130 year history through a really nice interface. Love the transitions and well designed and well thought out layout – in particular the scrolling left & right works a joy. Lots of nice attention to detail bits, nice icons and fun to use.

Optimo Hats

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Nice site for Optimo hats, ‘life’s better with a great hat’. Premium styled, with nice transitions and layout, like the video backgrounds and the considered use of typography. Really like the ‘style’ section where you can see the whole range of hats and explore them from different angles. A surprising site for such a specialist subject, nicely designed & fun.

The Journey – Nike Better World

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Nice site for Nike Better World, ‘The Journey’ follows athlete Jason Lester on a 102 day journey across America to show Americans Nike’s commitment to making a better world. I like the particularly clean approach to design and layout, and the nice considered usage of fonts. Nice little animations and again another vertical scrolling site, but this is a nicely executed well designed example.

Beyonce

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Really nice site for Beyonce, the music superstar. Modern, fresh, and beautifully designed site, I love the amount of white space and the considered layout and typography. It looks more like a graphic design magazine than a best selling artist’s, it is considered design and fantastic photography, video, and interesting personal content.

Temporary Stedelijk

Interesting site showing the latest modern art on offer from Holland, lacking a building for young innovative artists to display Amber van den Enden and Kalle Mattsson decided to offer a website refreshed often showcasing new art. The site itself is minimal and really allows you the chance to explore the art works rather like a large draggable magazine with videos and images. I particularly like the click and drag navigation, shortcut on the left, smartly arranged like we see on the site, I like the grey dashed line leading you through the exhibits. Pretty cool…

PARTY

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Best described by their website – ‘PARTY is a “Creative Lab” based in Tokyo and New York, founded by 5 Creative Directors, Naoki Ito, Morihiro Harano, Qanta Shimizu, Hiroki Nakamura, and Masashi Kawamura.’ Essentially 5 really talented creative directors working on some really nice, innovative projects. I like the strips on the homepage representing their projects – stretched over time, nice visually strong idea. For the rest they have some really nice projects and its well worth taking a look, definitely one to watch.

CROSS+NODE

A collection of students work from the Hong Kong University – Digital Media Design graduate show. An explorative approach to viewing the pieces, lots of projects moving around with your mouse. I like the infographic chart approach to highlighting the key attributes of the project, nice attention to detail and a fun way to explore without too much detail. All in all it looks great and has really nice subtle animations to bring it all to life.

TEDx – Amsterdam

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Really nice site, highlighting the talks and ideas of TEDx Amsterdam. Using a cool 3d interface to map twitter conversations coming out over time from a brain. The camera changes over time to alloy a ‘slideshow’ view, so when you are not interacting you can simply watch the tweets appear. What I also really like is the attention to detail and the info graphic approach to the design of information – the chart of times and the really nice rising panel which stretches the timescales and so on. Every little interaction and touch is well though out and designed. It is great just to interact and play with, but also shows all the info in an intelligent and useable way – on top of all this it also looks good!
