il-ho-jung-3

Site of Berlin based freelance art director / designer Il-Ho Jung. Nice and simple layout – looking somewhat like a graphic design magazine – with some nice transitions and animations. Like the rollover effect on the sub menu that scrolls to the relevant thumbnail. All in all a nice example of a modern portfolio site with a minimal stripped back look and feel.

Site promoting the latest ‘campaign’ from denim label G-Star RAW. Featuring a carousel of looks constructing and de-constructing – love the way the typography builds up, and in the background the different layers of glass rotating and moving. Some nice sections such as the look book – again like the way on rollover you can cycle through some different angles. Nice clean / minimal interface, and monotone style.

Competition setup by Heineken to win 2 intercontinental tickets to any destination of your choosing. All you have to do is submit a photo taken abroad with a bottle of Heineken somewhere in the image. The site housing of all is this is quite a technical feat, a fully 3d globe with night / day, rotation, bump mapping – the attention to detail is incredible! You can zoom in / out, see all the individual photos etc, all presented in a nice way. Loads of cool transitions and animations bringing it all to life – from planes tracking the distance to Amsterdam, to statistics on the amount of photos and locations – all really in depth a fun to explore.

Fantastic work for the London Symphony Orchestra. Playing Ravel’s Bolero, you can watch the music from various angles, with up to 4 at once – with close ups on the various sections. You can drag around the views and select which angle you want, really customisable and a nice way to watch and explore the composition. Love the orchestra view with all the shapes and colours and the  nice descriptions of the various instruments. Loads of nice transitions and animations bringing it all together, really nice experience.

Short and sweet site for French label Le Col de Claudine. Simply a nicely laid out page with subtle parallax style effect, with nice photography and large type. Love the way the background colour changes on scroll and reflects the colour in the items on the models, really subtle and a nice way to tie it all together. Sweet and simple.

Stunning site for WWF France – documenting the past 40 years. Featuring an interactive timeline that you scroll through showing video thumbnails – clicking them and they expand to more detail – bit of parallax effect and some light information. Nice timeline shown at the bottom of the page – rollover to expand – which categorises the various events and milestones. Loads of cool transitions and smooth animation throughout, very nice…

Portfolio site of agency NKI Studio based in Paris. Featuring a grid of projects which you zoom in/out of and explore to see the details – nice touch when you read the description – you zoom out a little and the text appears from the level above your viewing plane – it looks pretty cool. Lots of nice little touches – overall a slick little experience.

Site of designer & art director Anthony Goodwin. Really minimal and focussed – a carousel of colour coded projects, scrolling down you get into the details for each project. I like the full screen intro to each project, and the full screen visuals – and nice combination of designs on phones and tablet – all in a super minimal way that focusses on the work. Some nice attention to detail – some nice transitions – all in all a nice example of a portfolio.

Love this interactive musical experience for Goldfrapp. Featuring a vinyl-esque disc rotating in a photographic scene, clicking on the disc gives you up to 4 I guess musical points, which trigger certain samples resulting in a different tune and melody each time you interact with it. Love the various scenes and sounds, offering a moment of calm and respite in the middle of the chaotic internet. Fun just to play with and take in the beautiful photography and interesting music.

Hashima Island

Fascinating site about Hashima Island – a small abandoned island once home to a coal mine – the town was abandoned quickly meaning much was left behind. Recently Google Streetview was made made available for the island and this site was put together focussing on interesting locations such as ‘stairway to hell’, and ‘block 65’. Desaturated and with eerie music the site offers a great wrapper for the fascinating imagery – a really atmospheric almost game like experience.

Audi – #onemillionreasons

audi3d-3

Incredible campaign microsite for Audi and #onemillionreasons. Essentially a model of their R8 car made up of spheres, which people can ‘own’ through social media, clicking on one of the spheres shows the statement, which then also when the “3d ansicht” button is clicked – totally destroys the car and rebuilds it in front of your eyes – and turns it into the photo or statement – absolutely incredible! All built in Web GL, it allows you to rotate your view, zoom in, and interact with the various spheres. Love the attention to detail too, with the spheres moving around based on position of your cursor, and watching the light source cast shadows dynamically. It really is incredibly well made.

Portfolio of designer / developer Martin Wecke – based in Berlin. Really minimal and interesting portfolio – all based around the scrolling mechanic used in a unique way. Scrolling down adds new thumbnails for projects, clicking on one gives more info, scrolling down reveals new images – similar mechanic one level down. Ultra minimal look and feel, straight to the point in an interesting way.
