Sonia Rykiel – S/S 2014

Another great piece of work for Sonia Rykiel, this time revealing their pre Spring / Summer 2014 collection. Loads of super slick animations and transitions and details, especially like the little preloaders in different styles and positions – never overlaid across the visuals. The transitions from the grid to the detail view are pretty cool, and the way you see more tiles on the grid is great.

Site of German digital agency Artificial Rome. Nice offset grid style layout, and an interesting way of having elements ‘stick’ to the top of the browser as you scroll, providing context for what you are viewing. Some nice transitions here and there, but on the whole quite minimal and considered. I like the amount of white space and the layout which creates interest as you scroll the page.

Graffiti General

Site allowing you to explore an abandoned graffiti clad building in a suburb of Paris. Hi-res photos have been taken of the walls and mapped onto 3d models of the interior, the site allows you to walk around and your mouse to change your view with the keyboard controlling where you walk. There are featured famous graffiti artists with small hotspots indicating where they are. Nice attention to detail in the 3d scenes, with light streams, and dust particles and so on. You can jump around and explore using the map, and even paint on the walls in an editor type mode. Very detailed and fun to explore.

New site of agency Hello Monday. Really simple and minimal, and responds nicely to layout changes. Simple animations add a nice element of movement when you visit the different projects, and the story told for each project is interesting. Nice images and nicely flowing design create the pages, all in all a nice example of an agency portfolio.

Moon

Interesting piece from a collaboration between the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei & Olafur Eliasson. A blank moon, a 3d sphere you can rotate and zoom in/out of – open for everyone to draw upon. Typically these kind of things are curated and censored, but this is open for anyone to do whatever they want. So you can imagine what is there, but there is also little nuggets, drawn by the creators themselves, there are inspiring quotes, nice sketches, and interesting patterns. The drawing part is fun, you claim a spot and can draw easily – all a bit of fun. Interesting to see what people but up – representing a wide international spectrum of people. Described in the ‘about’ section – “Leave your fingerprint and see the shared moon grow as others reach out too. Let’s show the world that together our marks matter. Creativity defies boundaries.”

Nice little promo for a game available on the app store. Physics based, multiplayer, drag and drop game – using a bizarre multi coloured character! Click on the box to connect it to the character, and drag around to carry the box to open a trap door. Really intuitive and fun to play around with.

The Chase 360

Site promoting Volvo Trucks, and their proposition that their trucks are agile and quick in challenging built up scenarios – all shown through being chased by bulls in the Spanish town of Ciudad Rodrigo. Your view starts from the back of the Volvo truck and you can click and drag the camera around to pan your view around the scene. Swapping cameras is on the right side of the screen where you can change out your view and even see a map of the town and the route. The stats are quite incredible, some 28 cameras and 250 film crew, the detail is amazing. Even for a new car launch this would be incredible, but to promote a truck makes it even more remarkable – really nice.

Music video of Pharrell Williams – Happy. Really simple and elegant – 24 hours of people dancing to the track – all throughout the various periods of the day. You can click and drag around the wheel to jump to different times – with the keyframes sliding around behind the time wheel. Love the interface, really useful, intuitive and looks great – I also love the concept – just a great idea and a great execution of digital work – no one is going to sit through a 24 hour long music video, but interactive makes this easy.

Site of creative developer Santi Grau, showcasing his portfolio. Lovely range of work from ‘sonic typefaces’, to 3d avatar generators, to commercial sites. A developer with a very keen creative eye, the projects are neatly wrapped up in minimal interface and explained very simply, like the mechanic on the project level navigation – when you scroll the circle scrolls with you. Really nice set of experimental work mixed in with some nice commercial projects.

Site promoting MoMA’s exhibition on Magritte. Allowing you to explore Magritte’s surrealist paintings – in depth – or simply skim through them through a blend of music and typography. The information for each painting is detailed and interesting, with x-rays, background insights – which adds a nice layer to explore. The layout is pretty interesting too, with background colours morphing to fit the hue and colour for each painting.
