SoftBank – Jelly Beans

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Mega cool, and mega mental promotional site for SoftBank, and what seems like promotional Jelly Beans edition phones! Featuring a 3d environment where jelly beans and the phones float around to music, making up shapes and animating around everywhere. By clicking and dragging a phone, you drag the phone towards you and the rest of the phones carry on doing their own thing. By dragging more you reveal different information about the phone. Really fun and captivating, I really love the drag interactivity, and sitting back to watch all the animation! Really cool…

ELSE Mobile

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Site promoting the new handset from Emblaze. Very cool intro video followed by a futuristic / sci-fi esque site. Lots of nice motion graphics in this one, with a quasi cinematic feel. Some nice touches and animation, all with a nice attention to detail.

Vida Blackberry

vida blackberry

Pretty cool site promoting Blackberry in Brazil. Using Twitter feeds and Flickr images and videos, you can see ‘normal’ people using their Blackberry. These messages, videos, and images scroll by to give you a nice overview of what is possible using Blackberry products. Really nicely produced, lots of slick animations with a clean and crisp visual style. Nice to sit back and let it all roll by.

Verbatim Championship

verbatim championship

Interesting site promoting Verbatim memory. Characters that are made up from memory sticks fight each other in an arena, you can answer a series of questions, each correct answer gives you more memory – in the end creating your character – which you can then use to fight other characters. All in slick 3D, the site is great fun to use, with loads of nice animations and interactivity. Pretty unusual and engaging way of promoting a somewhat boring product!

I Am Unique

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

i am unique

Interesting site promoting Foxtel’s IQ TV box, the site allows you to create an ‘interactive 3d portrait’ of yourself. Using photographs, words, stories, Twitter feeds, and so on – users can make a tiled 3d image of themselves which they can share with friends, Facebook etc. What I like about it, is the 3d build up of the ‘i am unique’ text made up of photos, and the way you interact with the scene, also the way the portrait is made up of various bits such as uploaded photos and descriptive words. Overall design is nice and simple, with a lack of overwhelming branding, the 3d portrait is a bit buggy but the idea is pretty nice…

Nokia E71 – Beautiful Connections

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

nokia e71

Very simple site that promotes Nokia’s E71 phone and the concept ‘Beautiful Connections’. Four short films were commissioned with the artists, Universal Everything, Carl Burgess, field, and SHFT; they all explore beautiful connections which are very stunning. It’s all very minimal and clean, and all a great excuse to commission some great visual artists…

Momoko Golf Lab – Sony Japan

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

momoko golf lab

Momoko Golf Lab, a promotional site for Sony Japan. Providing you with multi angle videos, hi-speed camera footage and so on, all featuring golf. What I like about this site is the interface and the use of 3D for an immersive experience. You rotate around a 3D scene, with videos mapped onto planes and cubes, all a bit surreal and ‘techy’ but it looks pretty cool.

Speak Visual

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Website promoting nVidia graphics cards & processors. Presented in a 3D interface, you can see nVidia user’s perspectives and thoughts about using their products. (Even Joshua Davies is in there!!) There is also a 3D gallery of images from user’s the world over. I like the way they have used 3D to give a great sense of depth to the site, they often break the frame of the site to give an even more pronounced effect. Throughout is a realistic sense of light and shade with polished animations, layout and typography.

Toshiba – The Journey of Innovation

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Lovely site promoting the latest Toshiba range of electronics, laptops, cameras and so on. Best explained by Unit 9, ‘An experiential website engaging users through gesture navigation allowing them to spend time with Toshiba’s innovations and products in a new and innovative way. The website detects patterns. Interact by drawing.’

Really like the illustrations and the adventurous approach to navigation and interaction, it works quite nicely, for example you draw a swirl around one of the fish and it changes shape, or draw a zig zag over the characters playing music and the soundtrack changes. It looks great and a nice, positive, non-techy approach to an electronics brand.

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Nice site from Brazil – ‘Estúdio Coca-Cola Zero’. You can record your own message and apply effects to it and send the recording to a friend or download it to your phone to use as you please. Nice parallax scrolling effects and nicely designed and well coded – pretty slick.

Samsung Music

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Interesting site promoting Samsung’s music phones. You can create your own 3D ‘soundscape’, the closer various colourful blocks are to the phone the louder their respective sounds are. There is a wide selection of sounds, which you drag around in the 3D space, you can save it and share it and so on, the gallery is quite nice too. I like the idea and the way you can drag the blocks of sound to create a virtual space which you can then explore also in first person perspective, pretty cool.

Nokia – Somebody Else’s Phone

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Interesting concept for Nokia – Somebody Else’s Phone. The idea is that 3 people’s phones are on display on the site, you can go through their messages, videos, pictures, contacts, calendar and so on. Each character has a storyline that you can follow in real time across the span of the campaign, even with ‘real’ phonecalls that you can listen to online. They each have a facebook page, some characters have flickr pages and some are interlinked. In typical advertising fashion they are aspirational, i.e. models, good looking, etc etc, their stories are relatively compelling – for example Anna the swedish student moving to London to get money for her studies, she has to model, so we see her going to castings and making friends, sending videos to her boyfriend back home and so on. Of course all at the same time as showing the features of the phone and being the primary tool to view the content.

There is a lot of detail and a lot of content, it’s quite incredible, all well produced and thought out. Not sure how effective it will be as a campaign, with some of the comments shown on this page, it will remain to be seen – but I quite like the concept. Its a good example of using online media to provide storytelling in a digital age, through the use of the very tools we use to communicate. The site looks cool and I like the attention to detail in the execution, interesting…
