Perrier Secret Place

Perrier’s epic narrative ‘Secret Place’ – an immersive interactive film, where you choose your perspective featuring 60 people – you then see the story unfold through their eyes. The idea is to find the ‘secret bottle’ to enter a draw to win a holiday. There are lots of different scenarios from cutting a ladies dress off to reveal clues, to a game of poker, to flirting bar men – all with a sexy / weird twist. It is a lot of fun to explore the various story lines and characters – with their being a time limit to find the bottle it encourages you to replay time and time again. Great production value, and art direction – it apparently took Ogilvy Paris 18 months to create all the different scenes and characters. Also really like the summary of the characters and the journey you took through the site – again it makes you want to explore again and again.

Florilege – Vacheron Constantin

constantin-1constantin-2constantin-3

Promotional site for a range of 3 special watches from swiss maker Vacheron Constantin. The watches are inspired by botanical illustration in the 18th Century, and that theme runs through the site. Essentially a long page with sections of detail off to the side – you scroll and animations are triggered as you go. I like the way the text fades in and the illustrations fade in as you go down, each watch has a slick video highlighting the dial – then prompting you to read about the details which are presented in a more editorial way. Really like the style and the execution which feels like a premium magazine feature.

The Messi Matrix

Messi Matrix

Fascinating site showing football player Messi’s stats – all centred around a 3d exploratory interface. Fantastic execution, with a 3d football and animated infographics, love moving around and panning the viewpoint. Love the transition from ball view to information view – the ball explodes revealing the information. The attention to detail is incredible, even when you change the timescale the figures on the ball update accordingly. At certain angles lens flares glow, with dust particles moving around all in all great experiential site.

Digital Creativity Guidebook

A guidebook from Google to highlight the creative possibilities of the digital world with Google. Love the concept of a 3d pop up book, with various scenes showing possibilities such as street view, mobile, YouTube. The scenes are not only animated they are also interactive. There are various ‘pull’ tabs which trigger actions in the scene such as in Google maps, pull the tab and your view goes into street view. Also love how the movement of the pages is linked to your mouse which provides a very tactile interactive experience. All done in CSS / Javascript – really quite amazing.

100000 Stars

Quite an accomplishment – Google Creative Lab have made a bit of a tech demo / visualisation of part of our galaxy for Chrome browsers. I love their disclaimer ‘Warning: Scientific accuracy is not guaranteed. Please do not use this visualization for interstellar navigation.’ all a bit of fun. Love the way you can zoom right in and even see other stars each with a bit of explanation and knowledge. Nice animation that show orbits of suns, planets etc – Gliese 570 is a great example – nice detail.

Magic City

Site promoting French TV’s OCS Max channel and a new show ‘Magic City’, set in 1950s Miami. This site is really pushing the boundaries of what is possible right now using CSS/Javascript – it truly is a rich experience. Dotted with animations from entering/exiting the elevator to parallax movement linked to your mouse position, videos, sound it is hard to believe it is not Flash. Essentially you move from floor to floor via an elevator, to explore the scenes and look at the characters. Looks good, loads of animation and a rich experience.

Also a big fan of the music and sound fx! A really fun and playful site.

Nice site illustrating the index price of Christmas presents – all related to the ’12 days of Christmas’ – nice idea and really nicely executed. One of the best examples of a non-Flash site i’ve seen – in terms of sound integration, Google street view, music, transitions, flips. It looks great too, really nice layout and design, and lovely transitions all tie up to be a great site.

Here At Home

Site from the National Film Board of Canada – highlighting the plight of homeless people in Canadian cities – an starting an experiment to home thousands of homeless people to see how much this costs vs not homing them and then treating them in drug clinics / shelters and so on. A brave experiment from the Canadian government. On top of being a fascinating story – the site is beautiful. Lots of cool transitions and lovely attention to detail. The homepage is a visual treat of swirling balls of colour and video clips. Exploring the cities we see a more infographic approach to the layout and design. The way things move around the screen and the way text animates is really nice as is the art direction – all in all a nicely rounded experience.

Jam With Chrome

By | @google | No Comments

Pretty amazing feat from Google – Jam With Chrome. A multi-user musical jam session! The level of detail and complexity visually simplified here is incredible (It’s all created in javascript and so on too). Mind-blowing really… Really fun to play with and nice angular art-direction, loads of nice animation and transitions. Love the ‘pro’ and ‘easy’ ways to play, loads of little customisable features such as bpm, key, distortion and so on. Really really cool, looks great, and fun to play with.

Lexus RX

By | @brandstudio, WEBSITES | No Comments

Another great Russian Lexus microsite. Featuring the ever popular parallax vertical scroll layout – really like the gaps between the sections and the interactivity in some of the sections – such as changing the wheel or the car moving with your mouse cursor position – lots of little elements of delight. The sliding menu on the right panel is intuitive and works well – although always scrolling downwards can be a bit disorientating. Design is great, slick, elegant and simple makes the car visuals pop out, really nice well considered site with lots of cool interactivity.

Les Revenants

By | @BETCParis, WEBSITES | No Comments

Canal+ site promoting new series Les Revenants – again with the 360 drag to view mechanism. What I really like here is the feeling of depth and quality of the scenes, it really feels very immersive. You explore various locations and meet some of the characters from the series – the way they have placed video inside the scene is fantastic – with characters closer to you appearing closer with a kind of parallax effect. Really well crafted and fun to explore…

Clouds over Cuba

By | @MartinTweets, WEBSITES | No Comments

Fantastic documentary site about the Cuban Missile Crisis. Highlighting the context for what happened, using videos and images – and interesting interviews – even with a section for ‘what if?’ an alternative ending for what might have happened. Lots of really nice user design, transitions and animations  – the line is really getting blurred now between what you can achieve with the latest CSS and HTML when compared with Flash. Love the minimal design and smooth animations and interactivity. Also happens to be a fascinating subject – brought to life in a fun and interesting way.

Daybreak

By | @NorthKingdom, WEBSITES | No Comments

Site for Daybreak, an online drama series promoting AT&T and their 4G network, presented through a series of sites and an app to provide an alternative reality experience. Love the level of detail across the sites, the vertical scroll which for example shows the sun setting and rising as you scroll, the cool Jackboxer site – loads of animation and great art direction. Really cool sites, that a fun to explore, look great, and work well.
