Red Interactive Agency

By | @REDinteractive, WEBSITES | No Comments

Portfolio site of Red Interactive Agency. Loads of really cool transitions and animations – using a grid based layout to highlight key projects, news, awards etc, clicking one flips it around and makes the whole background fade back and the project come forward. Love the transitions between sections and the attention to detail as different sections of the page animate in. Really modern site, with progressive enhancement – most of the animations work on iPad, mobile and so on, pretty cool…

Hennesey White Rabbit

By | @resn_has_no_i, WEBSITES | No Comments

Site promoting Hennessy VS and their new campaign ‘what’s your white rabbit?’. Plunging you down the ‘rabbit hole’, and taking you to strange interactive 3d scenes, love the exploration feel to it all – moving you mouse around the scene,  clicking on strange objects and so on. Nice to see a site like this again, well crafted, fun to play with and looks great.

Chrome Web Lab

Love this site right now – lots of live streams and interactive experiments to play with
in collaboration with the Science Museum London and Google Chrome. For example live video streams from an aquarium in South Africa, to playing with a live orchestra in London, to having your face drawn in sand by a robot. I love the design and styling, all very slick and detailed – the attention to detail is incredible – when you are watching the live streams they are first represented by a circular shape when clicking on the feed you can pan around your view and take snapshots, when other people take snapshots a tiny counter is updated. The 3d is fast and smooth – the animations and transitions are spot on, the user experience too – from the menu to the buttons it all looks great. It feels like an old school detailed Flash site, but all in latest WebGL and emerging technologies – fantastic.

Chaos to Perfection

Another ‘Chrome Experiment’ this time in the flavour of a 3d fly through around The Palace of Versailles. Nice art direction, slightly interactive  tour. You can change your viewpoint slightly as you tour the highlights of the Palace, set along with a nice soundtrack it is reminiscent of the ROME site a while ago. Using the latest WebGL effects it is a good experiment to play around with with a cinematic feel.

Tricky Tracks

Really fun game site allowing you to play with a model train set – all recreated in 3d  with Unity3d. Really simple minimal design & interface, with highly detailed 3d sets that you can rotate, zoom and pan around. Love all the various effects on the maps – such as the depth of field, the lens flares, tilt shift and so on.

Build With Chrome

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Nice site promoting Google Chrome – a tie-in with Lego, a large Google map of Australia dotted with grids made up of lego bricks. As you zoom into the map you end up in a 3d view of places where people have created their own blocks and shapes which you can view from various angles. A bit of fun, clean integration and nice 3d effects.

Google Cube

Nice site highlighting Google Maps and its latest abilities. Using a 3d map you move your cursor to change the position to move a rolling ball through cities such as New York, London and Tokyo, each time showing a feature of Google Maps such as tube times and so on. Really nice WebGL 3d, and beautifully done and designed – all fun to use to and very Google.

TEDx – Amsterdam

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Really nice site, highlighting the talks and ideas of TEDx Amsterdam. Using a cool 3d interface to map twitter conversations coming out over time from a brain. The camera changes over time to alloy a ‘slideshow’ view, so when you are not interacting you can simply watch the tweets appear. What I also really like is the attention to detail and the info graphic approach to the design of information – the chart of times and the really nice rising panel which stretches the timescales and so on. Every little interaction and touch is well though out and designed. It is great just to interact and play with, but also shows all the info in an intelligent and useable way – on top of all this it also looks good!

Bear 71

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Bear 71 is a stunning interactive documentary about a female bear’s movements over 8 years, after she was caught in 2001 by wildlife officers in the Banff National park, Canada. Explained by Creative Review, “The project’s co-creators Leanne Allison and Jeremy Mendes decided to turn the 1m photos taken during the time of Bear71’s monitoring into an interactive project with the help of the National Film Board of Canada’s digital studio, NFB Interactive, and have Bear71 herself as the narrator of the story (she is voiced brilliantly by actress Mia Kirshner)”, link.

I love the execution, a lot of thought has gone into how best to present this wealth of information in an interesting and interactive way. Featuring a 3d map you explore made of dots that represent the terrain, trees, rivers, roads, hills and so on – you get a real feeling of depth. Bear 71 can be seen walking around the environment, triggering video events and so on, there are also all the other ‘characters’ in the park, golden eagles, lynx, deer, cougars, wolfs, other people (shown by a webcam snapshot when you start the site) which roam the park. It really is a fascinating experience offering a unique insight to the life of a bear in a human world, the trials they face, the dangers and how we affect their world. All presented in an innovative, beautiful and interesting way. Really great work…

JAM3

Wicked portfolio of Toronto based digital agency JAM3. Using very cool transitions and an interesting particle based 3d effect, every part of this site is slick and smooth. All the interactions have been carefully designed and animated, I love the transition between the projects and section with your view zooming around and the interface building and disappearing, all so detailed. Really great, modern and fresh portfolio showing what Flash can do.

Internavi Dots – Honda

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Site for Honda Japan featuring info graphics and data about road journeys in Japan. These are all visualised using coloured dots and smoothly animated and shown like a slideshow. Information such as current traffic and weather conditions is shown all in an informative and interesting way. Love the way the dots all move around to form the visuals. Minimal layout and look and feel but the animations and slideshow are really nice, great way of showing information in an dynamic and visually interesting way.

JUK3D – Nissan

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

A simple micro site giving people the chance to explore the new Nissan JUKE. Using the latest Flash 11 hardware accelerated 3D effects, you are presented with a detailed 3d model of the car – placed in a neutral setting you can walk around the car, change colour, get in and out of the car – all from first person perspective. Very simple and fun, I love the way the colour of the car changes and the simplicity of interaction with the car and the environment – dragging the doors open and sitting inside the car – all incredibly immersive. Very well executed, the 3d is fast and smooth and the site is polished – very very cool.

Check-in Chance – Uniqlo

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

Constantly amazed by the quality and innovation of Uniqlo micro sites. This one for Japan involves a cute 3d scene – your mouse controlling the rotation of the scene. Animated to the music and the scene is brought to life, objects fall using parachutes to the ground and a whole pile of things litter the floor. You scroll through the site as you do the angle of the 3d view changes and it highlights the differing depths of the scene. Lovely parallax effect and real feel of depth and cool animation – fantastic, not sure what the site is all about but the execution is amazing.
