If I can Dream

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

If I can Dream – website documenting the stories of 5 young people chasing their dreams in Hollywood. Set in a Big Brother esque house with cameras everywhere – as the viewer you can go to several of the rooms and choose a camera and be a voyeur. Set within a 3d navigation and with a really nice interface design, you navigate to different areas within a fluid 3d box. One of nicest and smoothest uses of 3D I have ever seen, the 3d doesn’t get in the way of anything and just adds to the whole experience. Loads of attention to detail, I love all the little rollovers and icons, the 3d transitions are amazing. Great design, very complicated build, slick animation, all in all a fantastic looking and very impressive website.

Brightdancing

Pretty interesting site promoting the sponsorship of X Factor & TalkTalk – a phone/broadband company, in the UK. Using the idea of light drawing/graffiti this site invites the audience to record their own light drawing via webcam and save to the site. The best clips will be shown during the commercial breaks of X Factor. It’s a pretty cool concept – the nice part is the website which enables all of this. Nicely designed with a pretty cool interface – it’s nice to just watch the videos on the site as they all refresh automatically so it’s fun enough just to sit back and watch some roll by.

HBO Imagine

HBO imagine

Fantastic site promoting HBO and it’s new project, much like the HBO Voyeur, HBO Imagine. Presenting a series of short films all shot from 4 different angles. The mechanism for viewing is a large 3d cube which you drag around to see the 4 different sides. There are several films to explore all through a floaty 3d interface. It is all highly polished with great transitions and animation, love the way you can explore the different videos. All very slick interactivity with interesting films, all directed by Noam Murro, complete a really cool online experience.

fat freddys drop tv

Video site of band Fat Freddys Drop. Very simple site allowing you to view videos and compose sequences from the clips dropped onto the table. I really like the polish of the site, it looks great and there is a nice attention to detail, in particular the rollovers on the videos and dragging action…

Big & Small

big and small

Entertaining site accompanying the BBC kids show ‘Big & Small’ – designed for children aged 3-6 and their parents. The site is a playground, with little interactive games and experiences such as hand painting, music, videos and so on. But what makes this so remarkable is the depth and polish of the site itself. Set within a detailed 3d environment you explore the setting via the interactive experiences, with your mouse affecting your view. But it isn’t just the way it looks, the interactive sections are really a lot of fun, each of them highly polished, with great animations and sound fx – it’s been a while since i’ve interacted with a site like this for so long! For example there is a small game where you have to try and brush the teeth of one of the characters and the toothpaste spreads all over the 3d items in the bathroom, the sink, the mirror etc. Another where one of the characters jumps on the bed and the bed surface reacts to his movement.  The little touches all add up to make a fantastic website with incredible use of Papervision – really detailed environments, highly interactive, and really well designed.

Flash On

Site showcasing the new HD capabilities of the Flash Player, each trailer has a HD option, which launches the trailer in HD and full screen. Really great way of presenting the trailers in a nice visual way, nice touches and easy to use navigation. The transition between full screen and windowed is pretty cool. Great progress for the Flash Player.

Feel Something

Very simple idea and execution demonstrating a nice concept to promote Foxtel, an Australian tv service. Short videos of people watching a selection of different tv channels set alongside a nice soundtrack. I really like its simplicity & concept – overall a nice little site.

The Infinite Oz

The Infinite Oz

Inspired by the classic Zoomquilt which has been around for years, ‘Infinite Oz’ is based on the SciFi Channel’s new mini series ‘Tin Man’ – a new take on the classic Oz tale. Nine artists have collaborated to make an endless journey where the viewer explores mystical scenes with ambient music and sounds. Like Zoomquilt you can control the direction of travel.

I am amazed that there hasn’t been many more examples of this style of navigation/user experience in the commercial world. I have always loved Zoomquilt, and its good to see people paying credit to its origins and getting good artists to make the scenes. A really nicely polished experiential website, created by B-Reel and Fallon.

HBO Voyeur

What a great execution of a fantastic concept to promote the HBO ‘Project Voyeur’ lots of extra material here. You explore an interactive world of videos showing what happens behind closed doors. Exploring various stories in different buildings and over serveral days you view the world through a voyeurs eyes.

Very slick website from Big Spaceship that just works so well. I love the way you can zoom in and follow individual rooms or see them all at the same time, explore different buildings and follow various stories, all very involving.
