keith tyson
Website of artist Keith Tyson. Nice site which presents the works of Keith Tyson, presented in a floaty 3d space, you select projects and then view them from within a circular interface. A well designed site, with a clear interface and all the features you come to expect, but all done in an excellent way. Nice attention to detail, interface and look & feel, a great example of an online gallery…

Uniqlo Zoom

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

uniqlo zoom

New Uniqlo website, best described by their incredible agency tha ltd, “A campaign website for Uniqlo’s 2009 UT Spring/Summer Collection has been launched. Just like the TVCM, the website features some of the main T-shirts of the collection in an endless zoom.” So we have a nice endless zoom feature, similar to the ‘zoom quilt’ of the past, except this time we zoom into Uniqlo’s range of t-shirts. Featuring photography and video, you use your mouse scroller to control your direction and speed (or let it scroll automatically). I like the fact when you view the videos your scroller controls the speed of the video – nice touch, also love the high resolution photos and the overall style. Also love the ‘homepage’, a constantly scrolling view of each of the photos, when clicked take you right to that item – also well integrated to the Japanese online shop. Again lots of nice animation and small touches – all set inside a simple interface which is clear and easy to use…  Cool!!

26000 Vodka

2600 vodka

Beautiful site of 26000 Vodka, a vodka from New Zealand that is made from water which is 26,000 years old. Really well designed, a lovely interface, and simplicity at it’s core. Your navigation is presented with droplets of vodka, freeze framed in a 3d interface along with the main navigation, your viewpoint pans and tilts as you move your mouse – all giving a nice perception of depth. Each of the sections have a similar effect and navigation highlighting it’s ingredients, recipes, downloads and so on. You pick up small facts and info along the way, between each section are short questions (relating to 26,000 years) or ‘vodka secrets’.  I love the play with the depth of field and the subtle 3d, which is not intrusive or detractive. As you navigate the site you feel inspired by the subtle interactivity and simplicity of the whole thing. Even the age check is done nicely, lot’s of attention to detail, nice animation and transitions, great sound design, and mostly you come away feeling enchanted and learning something about the product… fantastic.

Thomas Schmidt Photography

Thomas Schmidt photo

Nice and simple site of photographer Thomas Schmidt. Really like the full screen photographs that sit side by side that you just slide through by clicking the arrows or by using your arrow keys. Divided into 3 main categories the menu is kept very simple and with a nice touch it is on a ‘difference’ blend mode so is always visible. I like the way when you reach the end of the portfolio it zooms all the way to the beginning again…

Viva Positivamente – Coca Cola

Viva Positivamente - Coca Cola

Site promoting Coca Cola and their social and environmental work in South & Latin America. Really nice, clean, simple site featuring a showcase of projects Coke have been involved with. Featuring a 3d interface, each category has little cards which float around forming a shape, i.e. a coke bottle, a globe and so on. Really slick, smooth 3d interface, well designed buttons and loads of attention to detail.

Freedom & Partners

freedom & partners

New portfolio site of agency Freedom & Partners. Going for the 3D interface design, Freedom have created a very minimal, well crafted portfolio site, highlighting their work in an innovative way. With information presented on the various axis, you can view 3d animations and videos of their work, along with the standard text desciptions, whereby you move your view around by clicking and dragging to see all parts of a project. There is also a non-3d version, which ironically I found harder to use, it’s quite a daring approach to take for an agency portfolio, as the interface is a little clunky and fiddly. Aside from that it’s great to see a different approach, with an original approach to interface design, pretty cool…

Beams

beams clothing

Site promoting Beams, specifically Women’s clothing 25th anniversary. A very simple interface showing thumbs of the items, when you click on an item they have used a really nice way of zooming in/out of the photo. You hold down your mouse button to zoom in / pan around (with the item slightly rotating on left/right movement) and let go to zoom out, complete with nice little sound fx. Again another typically Japanese site design, where the interface and interaction design is top notch, the site is fun and simple  to use.

Nike Air Jordan 2009 – Beyond

jumpman 23 2009

Damn cool website promoting the Nike Air Jordan 2009 shoe. 3D interface showing videos of Nike athletes and the shoe, you click and drag to pan the camera through the 3d scene, with nice lighting and visuals. I like the way by clicking a video moves the camera to the correct position, also love the camera panning on click and drag. Nicely polished, nice icons, VERY clean and simple, love the progression and lack of patronising the audience. So simple and clean, really appreciate the interface, very cool…

Uniqlo – Parka Style 1000

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

uniqlo parkastyle

Very simple microsite promoting Uniqlo’s parka collection. Pretty cutesy and fun, but I really appreciate again Uniqlo’s simplicity – horizontal scrolling navigation highlighting the different styles of parka featuring a mix of Japanese celebrities and models. The whole thing just gives a positive impression of the brand, with clean and crisp interactivity, and a nice layout.

Space Is The Limit

space is the limit

Cool site from Hyper Island with the idea to send messages you submit into space via the Swedish Space Corporation, essentially to promote Hyper Island and it’s Interactive Art Director students. Nice 3D interface with messages floating around from users, you pan around the environment, cool background music, nice layout and design. Like the way the camera moves around with the mouse. Simple, clean, looks cool…

Play Muji

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

play muji

Nice idea for Muji, every day a product from their catalogue is highlighted in the style and layout of a calendar.  The highlighted products feature videos and information with future items greyed out to be revealed on a certain day. Really simple idea, much better than creating a standard list or ‘normal’ product listing, even creating anticipation to visit again to find out more about things that caught your eye! Each item even has a click through to the item in the online store, so the process is complete. Explained simply by tha: “A promotional website for Mujirushi Ryouhin (MUJI). The website features a calendar interface of videos showing one MUJI product a day. By showcasing the products in small instructional videos, the website cuts across languages and is aimed for a worldwide audience.”.

It also looks great and as you can expect from it’s Japanese creators – a great layout and a well executed Flash site, nice and minimal with lots of good polish and animation. Created by one of my favourites tha ltd.

Nokia E71 – Beautiful Connections

By | WEBSITES | No Comments

nokia e71

Very simple site that promotes Nokia’s E71 phone and the concept ‘Beautiful Connections’. Four short films were commissioned with the artists, Universal Everything, Carl Burgess, field, and SHFT; they all explore beautiful connections which are very stunning. It’s all very minimal and clean, and all a great excuse to commission some great visual artists…
