Nice video experience running through the key features of the new Lincoln MKC. Set from a first person perspective you join your friend in a chase to find a missing wallet – conveniently using all the new features of the car! Nicely done, you can pan around your viewpoint – to look around the scene – makes for a more immersive experience. The key features are pulled out, and demonstrated in the film, you can pause and find out more in a non-obtrusive way. Overall a really nice example of using video & a story to bring a car to life.

VW.com

New responsive site for Volkswagen. So many small details to admire, the simplified navigation – to the side – expanding on pressing ‘more’ – so it remains elegant and does not over clutter the screen. Ultra stripped back models page, with the dynamic angles of the cars keeps it interesting. The full screen find a dealer feature – the real time stock inventory – the ‘find a match’ feature – the preloader that runs across the top of the page – the small legal disclaimers that slide up from the bottom of the viewport. Admittedly the site is for the US market, but still car sites are incredibly complicated and this site is really at the modern edge end of the spectrum. It looks lovely and stripped back as much as possible and responds well to different devices.

Site for the Coccinelle Collection of VW Beetle’s. Full of videos and interactive content – lovely homepage carousel – a bit different to usual – in this case a 3d rendering of the cars in their natural habitat. The detail pages are lovely – a bit of subtle parallax along with interactive elements such as allowing you to change the colour and so on / 360 degree sliders etc. Elegant design and layout, brought to life with nice animations and transitions.

VW Sports Cars

Really nice site for VW France showcasing VW sport cars in a rich and interactive environment. Featuring several cars that you can spin around in a dark and moody warehouse – with key stats design details and so on. The amount of detail from the 3d models to the animations is incredible, every small transition has been considered. I love the transitions from the home screen to the cars, and the way the 360 works, also all of the hotspot transitions. Another really cool part of the site is the way it responds, so desktop users get the full rich experience, tablet users get a very similar experience using the same content and videos and mobile users get a much more stripped back version – they all work really well. It looks great, feels great and is a fantastic example of a modern responsive promo site.

Mercedes – Forgotten Roadtrip

Nice bit of storytelling for the Mercedes GLA Class. You watch the main character regain his memory through small snippets of videos, images and interactive elements – all presented in a long scrolling page. Nice to see people trying different approaches – in order to appreciate the site you have to go through the story slowly – if you were to scroll quickly through it easy to dismiss as another parallax site. But all the individual snippets of the story, sound, draggable interactivity, and video draw you into the story. It also looks nice – with a bold style and feeling a little like Max Payne or Memento.

Nice video site promoting the new Gran Turismo 6 game. From the perspective of Mario Andretti famous driver, and his first love for a special car – the Hudson. Nice video story, with a nice full screen experience with sliding panels showing chapters and so on. Like the way the menus appear – smooth transitions to and from the main screen showing the main story.

Site promoting the Citroen DS5 car in Brazil. Full of really nice video content, photos brought to life through slick transitions and animations. Feeling more like a Flash site from the old days – with all the slick animations and transitions – but all in HTML.

Site promoting the new Range Rover Sport in the USA. Your mission is to ‘race the sun’, an interactive film, where you can change the gear, choose the right wheel for traction, either using your keyboard or syncing up with a device. Nicely done, with well shot video, and some nice touches. Like that the experience ends on a mini-visualiser allowing you to change the colour and wheels, all in a nice draggable 360 of the car.

Site promoting Volvo Trucks, and their proposition that their trucks are agile and quick in challenging built up scenarios – all shown through being chased by bulls in the Spanish town of Ciudad Rodrigo. Your view starts from the back of the Volvo truck and you can click and drag the camera around to pan your view around the scene. Swapping cameras is on the right side of the screen where you can change out your view and even see a map of the town and the route. The stats are quite incredible, some 28 cameras and 250 film crew, the detail is amazing. Even for a new car launch this would be incredible, but to promote a truck makes it even more remarkable – really nice.

Lovely online magazine site for Lexus Beyond. An app like experience for Lexus – and their magazine – a lot of competitors simply release an app to provide that rich design & user experience, but Lexus have created it all online which is quite a feat. Each article is individually animated and polished to a high degree to give a unique experience. This is all wrapped up in a simple interface which is easy to use and navigate – with nice transitions, layout, and design. Really worth exploring and getting into to see all the nice touches and details.

Audi – #onemillionreasons

audi3d-3

Incredible campaign microsite for Audi and #onemillionreasons. Essentially a model of their R8 car made up of spheres, which people can ‘own’ through social media, clicking on one of the spheres shows the statement, which then also when the “3d ansicht” button is clicked – totally destroys the car and rebuilds it in front of your eyes – and turns it into the photo or statement – absolutely incredible! All built in Web GL, it allows you to rotate your view, zoom in, and interact with the various spheres. Love the attention to detail too, with the spheres moving around based on position of your cursor, and watching the light source cast shadows dynamically. It really is incredibly well made.

Lovely campaign site for the new Citroen DS4 in Brazil. One of the richest non-Flash sites i’ve seen for a long long time, videos, dynamic masking, fantastic rollover effects, lovely use of scroll and interactivity. It also looks great, with nice photographs and video assets, and well considered design and typography. Really like the homepage and the innovative menu – a real exercise in cutting edge design for non-Flash sites.

Site promoting the all-new Range Rover. Essentially a video with annotations – showing the key features of the car – highlighted by small hints – the side panel slides out when pressed to reveal more info. Lots of little transitions add to the overall experience, the minimal design and animations make it feel like a modern tablet app.

Lexus RX

By | @brandstudio, WEBSITES | No Comments

Another great Russian Lexus microsite. Featuring the ever popular parallax vertical scroll layout – really like the gaps between the sections and the interactivity in some of the sections – such as changing the wheel or the car moving with your mouse cursor position – lots of little elements of delight. The sliding menu on the right panel is intuitive and works well – although always scrolling downwards can be a bit disorientating. Design is great, slick, elegant and simple makes the car visuals pop out, really nice well considered site with lots of cool interactivity.
